I am one for taking in the local tradition and culture whenever I go on holiday: So I tend to reach outside the usual tourist trap hotspots. Curiously I have never actually experienced a traditional English seaside holiday: Shame on me! However, while scanning for an economic breakaway recently I came across some offers on hotels in Llandudno and curiosity got the better of me. In fact I actually ended up booking one of smaller boutique hotels which was near the quieter West Shore area - Primarily because I thought it was about time I gave my homeland a run, the hotel reviews were good, the price was right and let’s face it, flights aren’t as economic as they used to be: And I was glad I did - I had a great time and my hotel was excellent!

While I was far more adventurous (blasé?) in my youth nowadays I am much more cautious about how I spend my spare time AND my cash. The risk of ending up in some dusty old room that hasn’t seen a lick of paint since WWII simply is not an option... No matter how great the local beaches are or how cheap the squid is... talking of food I am a TOTAL ‘foodie’ and I REALLY love Asian food (lived there for a year so I guess it’s to be expected!). The first night I was tired after travelling: And I was VERY lucky because mine was one of the only hotels in Llandudno with a restaurant onsite serving home cooked Indian food: So I gave that a whirl and was very glad I did: Excellent!

After a great night’s sleep and a ‘powered shower’ in the morning I was more than ready to sample the delights of a traditional English seaside holiday: The breakfast menu was incredible by the way! When initially checking out the offers on various hotels in Llandudno I noticed that most of the mainstream hotels are situated along the North Shore promenade: That’s because this has been the town’s centre for tourism since the Victorian era: And that is also why most of these hotels were generally offering less for notably more in comparison to the privately owned Boutique hotel I ultimately plumped for. However, because of that I thought I would make the North Shore my first port of call.

I walked from my hotel to the North Shore which was great. The scenery was fantastic and the sea air really put a spring in my step. The Pier was great fun: A good mix of old and new with funfair rides and arcades as well as some ‘oldy worldy’ Victorian shops and sideshows. Truly traditional and a lot of fun! Even so, if you are like me, someone who likes to live the quieter life (on the whole) I would recommend opting for one of the West Shore boutique hotels in Llandudno as well. The West Shore isn’t far from the Promenade and ‘all in all’ (from what I saw and experienced) you get better rooms and better service - That’s because boutique hotels tend to be smaller and privately run. I would also recommend that you find one of the local ‘Pub Inns’ and try out a traditional pub lunch and/or cask ale! Definitely ‘True Brit’.....
